Sukabumi, July 9, 2026 – A viral social media video featuring students of SDN Tegalega in Jampang Tengah, Sukabumi, practicing with a drum band using recycled Khong Guan biscuit tins captured the attention of many. Beyond its viral appeal, the video tells a heartwarming story of creativity, perseverance, and the dedication of teachers who continue to encourage their students to learn and thrive despite limited resources.
Inspired by this remarkable spirit, Khong Guan Group, through its Khong Guan Peduli, corporate social responsibility (CSR) program, visited SDN Tegalega to express appreciation to the drum band members, their instructor, teachers, and the school committee.
The visit was filled with warmth and excitement. Khong Guan representatives were welcomed by students, teachers, parents, and members of the local community. The event began with a live drum band performance, where the students once again showcased their creativity by playing instruments made from everyday materials, including the recycled Khong Guan tins featured in the viral video.
As a token of appreciation, Khong Guan presented its signature red biscuit tins to each drum band member, the instructor, teachers, and the school committee. The students also received specially designed T-shirts featuring an illustration inspired by their unique drum band performance using Khong Guan tins, serving as both a keepsake and a symbol of encouragement.

Heri Rahadian, a teacher at SDN Tegalega and the drum band instructor, explained that the idea of using Khong Guan tins originated when the school wanted to prepare a marching band performance for its year-end celebration but could not afford to rent the necessary equipment. Instead, students were encouraged to bring everyday household items that could be turned into musical instruments. As many families had recently celebrated Eid, several students brought empty Khong Guan biscuit tins from home, which eventually became part of their drum band practice.
"Our only goal was to make sure the children could continue practicing using whatever resources were available around them. We never imagined the video would go viral and receive such overwhelming support. We are truly grateful to Khong Guan for recognizing the children's efforts. We hope this appreciation inspires them to keep learning, growing, and pursuing their dreams," said Heri.
